GEC Outreach Programs and EventsBeth Hartka

GEC’s mission is to educate the mind, improve the body, and lift the spirits of local children and adults, regardless of income or (dis)ability, through the joy of horses.

Thus, we are here to share our peaceful location and gentle, kind horses with people who can benefit from it (well, everyone can benefit from it!) but particularly differently abled children/adults, and persons struggling with addiction, homelessness, trauma, emotional withdrawl, etc.

GEC’s outreach activities can come in many forms, such as:

  • Horse Discovery Days – free and open to the public the first Saturday of every month (April through November), children and families can interact with the horses by petting and grooming them
  • Programs designed for specific audiences, such as for Veterans or those recovering from addiction – these can be one time visits or a series of visits. Most will start out with a program similar to Horse Discover Days (above) and can over time progress to led ‘pony rides’ and eventually riding lessons where participants ride independently under the supervision of an instructor.
  • If desired other activities can be added such as helping staff with barn chores, learning how to braid manes and tails, how to wrap legs, hiking on the trails, etc.

GEC also hosts groups such as Scouts and provides field trips for home school groups, churches and schools.
