The guiding principle of GEC is to become a premier equine educational facility in the state of Maryland. We offer a wide range of services for all things equine related:

Horsemanship Classes

One of the highlights of our educational programs are our horsemanship classes. Current trainer, Jim McDonald, leads enthusiastic classes in learning to cope with problems by using the horse’s own system of herd dynamics and interaction with the goal of achieving a more rewarding relationship for both the horse and the handler.

Horseback Riding lessons

GEC also offers horseback riding lessons with our in-house trainers for all ages and experience levels. We can help you reach your goals with our wide variety of quality horses to meet all riders needs whether its: pleasure riding / trail competitions eventing dressage hunter / jumper special needs / therapeutic.

Horse Summer Camps and Day Camps

We have a variety of week long camps as well as single day camps scheduled for traditional holidays when children and adults are off from work and school. Our camps are popular and fill up very quickly! For most camps no previous horse experience is necessary.

Horse Leasing

We offer horses for half lease so that our riders can get more time in the saddle and see if they are ready for horse ownership! If you are interested in leasing a horse please fill out our interest form or ask your instructor about our horses currently available for half lease.

Horse Boarding

We are a full care boarding facility conveniently situated only 2 miles north of the Baltimore Beltway off of Harford Road. With over 22 acres of board-fenced pasture utilizing USDA approved pasture management and rotational grazing practices. Every pasture has access to large run-in sheds and the natural herd environment promotes the health and wellbeing of the horses. For more information or interest on boarding please visit our Horse Boarding page.

Trails for Hiking and Horseback Riding

GEC’s unique location in the Gunpowder State Park makes it a wonderful area to enjoy the park on horseback. We love visitors and welcome new faces to our facility. We offer miles of trails for avid trail rider or hikers. At this time GEC does NOT offer guided trail rides or horse rentals. Trail rides are available only to students who take regular lessons at GEC. We do allow horses to be trailered in to make use of the trails accessible from our facility. For more information on trail riding at GEC and in Maryland visit our Trail Riding, Hiking, and Trailering In page.
